A year in clinical bioinformatics

A year in clinical bioinformatics

Whole genome sequencing is increasingly being used in routine clinical microbiology for epidemiology, outbreak investigation, antibiotic resistance gene identification and identification of novel pathogens. At the Division of Clinical Microbiology at the University Hospital Basel, we are constantly working to improve our workflows to offer the best to the clinicians that use our services and, ultimately, the patients. Every sample that we sequence has an important background; using bioinformatics we can unlock a great deal of valuable information. I will discuss how we are addressing our goals: to analyse our data as thoroughly and efficiently as possible, and to communicate our results clearly to non-NGS specialists.
