Biography

Mohamed Abbas, MD, MSc, trained in General Internal Medicine and in Infectious Diseases before joining the Infection Control Programme (Geneva University Hospitals) in 2015 as Senior Research Associate. Between 2019-2022, he continued his research activities as an Honorary Researcher at the MRC Center for Global Infectious Disease Analysis, Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, School of Public Health, Imperial College London and in parallel as an Honorary Clinical Research Rellow at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). Since October 2022, he has held the position of Consultant Physician at the Infection Control Programme (Geneva University Hospitals). His research interests include hospital epidemiology, surgical site infections (incl. role of the gut microbiome), and modelling of nosocomial transmission of respiratory viruses.
