Fredrik Boulund (MScEng, PhD) is currently Head of Bioinformatics at the Center for Translational Microbiome Research (CTMR) at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden.
He received his PhD in Bioscience from Chalmers University of Technology.
His early work focused on the development of computational methods for analysis of large-scale fragmented sequence data,
mainly applied to the detection and discovery of antibiotic resistance genes in environmental bacterial communities.
He holds a special interest in the mobile plasmid-mediated fluoroquinolone resistance genes, qnr.
Later, he developed and implemented TCUP, a method for typing and characterization of clinical infections based on shotgun tandem mass-spectrometry proteomics.
For the past three years he has been leading the bioinformatics efforts at CTMR, coordinating and developing their bioinformatics workflows.
