Dr. Katrina Kalantar received her PhD from the UC Berkeley UCSF Joint Program in Bioengineering. Her research, conducted in the DeRisi lab, investigated methods for combining analysis of host and microbial factors to improve diagnosis of lower respiratory tract infections in critically ill patients using metagenomic next-generation sequencing. She has also been involved in a number of other mNGS clinical studies and is now applying this experience in her role as a computational biologist at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, supporting the IDseq infectious disease sequencing platform.
