Biography

Christoph A. Thaiss is an Assistant Professor at the Microbiology Department of the Perelman School
of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He performed his undergraduate studies in Molecular
Biomedicine at the University of Bonn, Germany, and his MSc. studies in Microbiology and
Immunology at Yale University and ETH Zurich, Switzerland. After a short-term scholarship at the
Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, he performed his graduate studies at the Weizmann Institute of
Science in Israel, including a visiting fellowship at Stanford University. After completion of his
graduate work, he established his research group at the University of Pennsylvania. His lab studies
the role of host-environment interactions in metabolic and inflammatory diseases, with a particular
focus on the role of the intestinal microbiota in the regulation of host physiology.
