Biography

Dr. Rafael Valdes-Mas earned his PhD in Biomedicine and Molecular Biology from the University of Oviedo (Spain) in 2016, focused on cancer metagenomics and the microbiome’s role in accelerated aging. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Weizmann Institute (Elinav Lab), where he investigates into the intricate interactions between the mammalian host and its microbiome, aiming to elucidate their impact on health and disease. His works include characterizing the effects of probiotics on the human gut microbiome, pioneering novel phage therapies for inflammatory bowel disease, and investigating the influence of non-nutritive sweeteners on the microbiome and subsequent glycemic responses.
