Shankar Iyer

Biography

Shankar Iyer received his Ph.D from the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg, Germany. His doctoral work involved the characterization of a bacterial sigma factor involved in polymyxin resistance. He continued his research on bacterial transcriptional regulation as part of his postdoctoral work in the same lab before joining Cell Press as the editor of Trends in Microbiology in July 2020. He is incredibly passionate about inclusion and diversity and is always keen on connecting with the research community to highlight their voices and discuss key issues affecting diversification in academia.
