Ulrika Boulund

Ulrika Boulund is currently finalising her PhD in bioinformatics under supervision of Max Nieuwdorp at the Amsterdam Medical Centers (AMC) in the Netherlands. She obtained a MSc Eng in bioinformatics and systems biology at the Technical University of Denmark, during which she also spent a semester at the Seoul National University in South Korea. Her PhD is part of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks (ITN), BestTreat, with a focus on the relationship between the gut microbiome, exercise and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). She is also working on numerous other projects during her PhD, including transcriptomic, metabolomic and genome-wide association studies of large cohorts. Most of her projects revolve around the gut microbiome and how it relates to increasingly prevalent cardiometabolic diseases such as NAFLD, obesity, type II diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
